Visualisers have become very popular for schools and combine the functions of video camera, overhead projector and magnifier in a single piece of equipment.

Visualisers have opened up an area of teaching that was largely impossible to achieve without a great deal of work being involved in transforming objects that needed to be projected into digital images that can then be projected from a laptop or PC. A visualiser is like a video camera that can capture and, record and save. It allows the image being captured to be projected via a projector on to an interactive whiteboard or any screen. As mentioned above, with an interactive whiteboard, teachers and lecturers are able to annotate over the projected image and capture it for future use.
The possibilities that open up with visualisers are therefore huge. Moving the visualiser's head around an object, the whole class is now able to appreciate the true three dimensional nature of objects with no real effort on the part of the teacher. Teachers can project specific paragraphs out of a book (much like an overhead projector, but without the need for acetates), and in the process save huge amounts of photocopying costs as well as help maintain a green environment.

With visualisers becoming more mobile and wireless, it is not difficult to pass one around the class for children to show off their work. A science experiment now does not need the whole class to crowd around the teacher's table. The whole class can see it all from their desks!
